AppGate Offers Swine Flu Releif for Businesses with Free Remote Access solution
Security vendor offers 20 user version of AppGate Security Server for free; can be upgraded to 50-user / 50 day licence for £990
AppGate Network Security, a leader in network access control and security solutions, is offering companies a free, fully-functional version of its secure VPN software to help with contingency planning against swine flu or other events that may disrupt normal business operations.
Any business can now download AppGate Free Edition (AFE), a free-to-use virtualised version of AppGate’s Security Server access control and VPN solution. AFE can be run on almost any computer hardware, and is licensed for up to 20 concurrent users.
AppGate says that AFE can be downloaded and deployed in less than 2 hours. Businesses needing more user licenses can buy AppGate’s Business Continuity Licence (BCL), which supports 50 concurrent users for 50 days and is priced at £990. Extra users or time can be added to BCL, as needed.
The latest UK Government figures suggest a worst case of up to one in eight employees forced to take time off work due to swine flu. On 28 th July, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) advised businesses to consider offering staff the option of home working to maintain continuity during the swine flu epidemic. The organisation warned that companies could be hit by intense periods of staff absence if projected figures for infections are realised.
“With AppGate Free Edition and the Business Continuity Licence, any organisation can exploit the complete security functionality of the AppGate suite to help them deal with contingencies that affect business-as-usual. It’s fast and easy to deploy and manage, ensuring that companies can react quickly to changing conditions,” said Tomas Olovsson, CTO of AppGate.
Stuart Jones, technical services manager at Yorkshire Building Society said: “Our Appgate deployment has given us a robust, flexible, scalable, easy to manage and deploy remote access solution. Key features, like the ability to cluster the solution across several geographic sites, and being able to rapidly deploy near zero footprint client software to remote users without the usual desktop installation issues make this an attractive option to consider in a DR/pandemic situation.”
AppGate Security Server includes application-layer firewall, fixed and mobile VPN capability, role-based access and endpoint security control. AppGate's solutions replace the traditional centralised firewall with a set of distributed firewalls installed on all clients and servers. These firewalls are centrally controlled and configured dynamically to allow or deny network traffic. This deperimeterised approach gives granular control over network access.
AFE can be downloaded directly from the AppGate website at:
The AppGate BCL can be ordered through a normal AppGate sales channel or directly from AppGate at appgate-sales@appgate.com. The BCL licence key will be issued within 10 working hours. Users can order the BCL in quantities of 50 concurrent users at a lifespan of 50 days, with the number of concurrent users or lifespan multiplied as needed.
