AppGate launches version 9.1 of the AppGate Security server with new improved features like Chained Authentication and a new virtual appliance image for VMware.

With version 9.1 of the AppGate’s Secure Access Solution, AppGate introduces a chained authentication method as a step towards true single sign on (SSO).

The new support for chained authentication methods lets customers combine two or more authentication methods. This gives greater flexibility in determining how users must authenticate, and can be used to raise security by asking for more than just a password. It is for example possible to require that the user possesses a valid Kerberos ticket, a valid password and an OTP token before being granted access.

The client login GUI will adjust itself to the given authentication method in order to make the login process as streamlined as possible for the user.

As in version 9 of the AppGate Security Server, 9.1is based on Open Solaris which makes it easy to have the AppGate server run in virtual server environments. The AppGate Server can run in a virtual server, be remotely managed and can in turn control access to other physical and virtual servers. This enables completely new architectures to be built in a secure way, and with the new ovf (Virtual Appliance) image available for VMWare it makes it even easier to set up a virtual AppGate Server.

"With version 9.1 we have given administrators even more flexibility to determine how to authenticate users."says Martin Forssen, Development manager at AppGate Network Security.

Designed to protect corporate assets and services, AppGate’s system provides precise control and full monitoring of user access. Yet performance hasn’t been compromised. The concept behind the technology actually means that data and applications are more secure with AppGate, and their products are used by a number of Government and defence organisations around the world.

As always AppGate security servers build on existing proven functionality such as:

  • Application Layer Firewall
  • Mobile & Fixed VPN
  • Granular & Role based Access Control
  • End-point Security with device check
