I cant get Share Access to work, what to do?
We recommend using the new File Access component, available from AppGate version 9, instead of the Share Access component which suffers from a lot requirements.
Description:
There are a few settings that must be properly in place before you can successfully mount a NetBIOS share using the AppGate Share Access Component.
The AppGate Client will check for those settings and give a warning if they are not met.
- You must run Windows XP, Vista is not supported.
- The username on the AppGate must have a matching username on the NetBIOS server.
- "Write to hosts file" must be enabled on the client side as the AppGate Client must be able to write to the lmhosts file. Check this setting at Connection -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Write to hosts file
- "Client for Microsoft Networks" must be installed and enabled in the Windows settings. You will find the setting under Start->Control panel-> Local Area Connection->Local Area Connection Properties
- "Enable LMHOSTS lookup" and "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" must be enabled in the Windows settings. You will find them under Start->Control panel-> Local Area Connection->Local Area Connection Properties-> Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties->Advanced->WINS
- On Win XP "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" has to be uninstalled or a registry entry added.
- To uninstall
Go to Control Panel -> Network and Dial-up Connections -> Local Area Connections -> Properties -> File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and select Uninstall . - To modify the registry entry
In: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters Add this entry:
Name: SmbDeviceEnabled
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0
And then reboot the machine.
- To uninstall
Client machines running Windows Vista can not mount shares via the Share Access Component but must use an IP access component and IP tunneling.
